Bayern Munich Frauen remained unbeaten with a 4-0 win today over newly promoted SC Sand. The team dominated the game from the beginning and was never truly challenged during the match. With a Saturday win, Bayern moves into first place in the Frauen-Bundesliga for the first time this season. After eight matches, the squad has 20 points.
The game began with ball control for Bayern as they dominated much of the possession. Bayern scored their first goal in the 8th minute with a close range shot by Vivianne Miedema. Good possession and good chances led to Bayern increasing their lead in the 27th minute when Melanie Behringer scored with a powerful shot. Just four minutes later, the teenager Miedema scored her second goal of the game to give the home team a 3-0 lead that they would take into the break.
During the halftime break, Bayern made a few changes brining on Katharina Baunach in for Amber Brooks and Eunice Beckmann on for Vanessa Burki. Bayern kept pushing the game for much of the second half and Sand had very few chances. Late in the game, substitute Eunice Beckmann scored a fourth goal for the squad that sealed the match. In the end, Bayern won the game 4-0 and were in control the entire time.
With a win today on a rare Saturday game, Bayern moves top of the table with 20 points. The rest of the league plays tomorrow, and VfL Wolfsburg is currently a point behind, but top of the league is top of the league. Bayern has done everything asked of them this season and has delivered. With 20 points in eight matches, Bayern is averaging 2.5 points a game and is on pace for a truly historic season. A strong offense and a rock solid defense when it matters most is what has gotten the squad to this point. The season may be young, but tonight they are top of the table.
