While everyone was hoping that this moment would have happened already, fret not. It will finally happen this weekend. Bayern Munich have announced that Mario Götze will finally make his on the field debut for Bayern Munich on Sunday in the friendly against Hungarian champions Győri ETO FC.
Götze started training with the first team last week, and Pep Guardiola has said, "We've promised he will play a few minutes." He hasn't played a game since being injured in the second leg of Borussia Dortmund's Champions League semifinal tie with Real Madrid. He came off early in that match, and the belief is that Götze pushed himself too hard to return for the final and re-aggravated the injured. Luckily, Bayern is the deepest, most talented team in Europe at this time, so his absence hasn't been felt.
Adding Götze into the side gives Guardiola even more flexibility in how he wants to play. Götze can play out wide right or left, in the center, or up top in a what seems to be Guardiola's preferred 4-1-4-1 system. Finally getting him on the field is the first step to getting him back in top form.
The friendly in Győr is a charity match. All proceeds generated from the match will be donated to local youth development and community projects in the area.
