FC Bayern II: Reserves open their season with a 6-0 thrashing of SV Heimstetten

FC Bayern Munich II started the 2013-2014 season away to SV Heimstetten and looked to impress with new head coach Erik ten Hag and a new look offense. Boy did they impress, laying a 6-0 beating on SV Heimstetten who finished 5th last year in the Regionalliga and are far from being considered pushovers. Lead by a hat trick by Bastian Fischer, the six goal performance sees them at the top of the Regionalliga after a single match. Also getting in on the action, were Oliver Markoutz, Nikola Jelisic, and Vladimir Rankovic with a goal a piece.

The youth squad played in the 4-1-4-1 formation that we have seen on this summer from the senior side. This is probably the most interesting piece of news from their match, as it signifies a potential unification of the message from the two coaches throughout the organization. We should seriously consider this might be the formation of the future for the Bayern Munich teams.

The reserve squad face off against Wurzburger Kickers this Wednesday in the second match of their season. Wurzburger Kickers finished mid-table last season in the Regionalliga and faced FC Bayern II on the last matchday of the 2012-2013 season. That match saw the reserve squad throw down for a 6-1 win behind a hat-trick from Marius Duhnke and a brace from Patrick Weihrauch. While Duhnke has moved to less red pastures and Weihrauch has graduated to the senior side, the stellar performance from Bastian Fischer in this weekend’s smashing portends well for the match to come.
