One of the best home sides in the Bundesliga took on the best away side in the league. This was supposed to be close, right? Nope, it was not. It was a lopsided 1-6 in favor of Bayern. Jupp Heynckes wrung the changes ahead of Barca. He left Bastian Schweinsteiger, Javier Martinez, Dante and Philipp Lahm out. He played Anatoliy Tymoshchuk in midfield. At halftime, Heycnkes took both Franck Ribery and Thomas Müller off.
On the day, David Alaba sort of got the party started. Luiz Gustavo sent in a wonderful ball to the young Austrian. Alaba crossed the ball. Unfortunately for Hannover, Lars Stindl sent the ball into his own net.

A second Bayern goal followed just seven minutes afterwards. Claudio Pizarro intercepted the ball and found Franck Ribery on the left. While the angle was not exactly in Ribery's favor, the Frenchman blasted the ball past Ron Robert Zieler anyway for 2-0.

When Mario Gomez plays these days, Mario Gomez (usually) scores. Bayern's third arrived before halftime courtesy of the German international. Claudio Pizarro found the half Spaniard with a delightful through ball. Gomez delayed his shot a bit, allowing a second defender to catch up with him but scored anyways. (Ignore the incorrect commentary on the video!)

Gomez scored Bayern's first after halftime as well. He was set up by a lovely ball from Jerome Boateng. The finish was harder than it seemed. Bayern's slightly lonely forward was taken off presumably due to the game in midweek. Also, is it me or is Boateng just having too much fun at the moment?

Hannover had more possession after that goal but just could not get out of their own half due to Bayern's pressing. A fifth Bayern goal came courtesy of the Peruvian, Pizarro. He greeted a wonderful low cross from David Alaba gleefully to put the ball into the back of the net. Alaba's one-two with Xherdan Shaqiri was fun to watch as well leading up to the goal.

Hannover finally got one to their own name with five minutes to go. Christian Pander's freekick deflected off of Rafinha, confusing Manuel Neuer. Neuer saved but the rebound fell to Andre Hoffmann who headed the ball into the back of the net.

It took Bayern only one attack to cancel out Hannover's first goal. Bayern's own Peruvian machine, Pizza, scored it. Arjen Robben set him up with a sweet through ball. Pizza rounded Ron Robert Zieler before slotting in from a very tight angle from the left.

Today, Bayern equaled the highest every points tally achieved in the Bundesliga over a season spanning 34 match days. When Borussia Dortmund set it last season, who knew the record would be equaled so quickly? Now, they are legitimate contenders to break the highest number of wins in a season record and even the highest number of goals in a single Bundesliga season record.
As always, thanks for reading!
