FC Bayern will lock horns with defending Italian champs Juventus. The 28-time Scudetto winners (am I saying that right?) are holding a big lead atop the Serie A standings again, after outlasting Milan for the title last year. And their CL campaign has been solid as well: they finished first in a tough group, going undefeated in 6 (although a home draw vs. Nodsjaelland was not a high point). They then comprehensively destroyed Celtic over 2 legs in the last round.
We'll do a deeper scouting post sometime soon, but off the top of my head, I know that Allesandro Matri and Mirko Vucinic are threatening forward options, Pirlo is their string-pulling passer/builder, Arturo Vidal is their hard-tackling defensive middie, and Giorgio Chiellini is the anchor of their back-line. Looks like they also have a couple of "blast from the past" names on the roster - Nicklas Bendtner included - but Matri, Vuc and Fabio Quagliarella are the ones that leap to mind as having the ability to threaten our defense.
Other match-ups from the draw:
- Barcelona vs. PSG
- Real Madrid vs. Galatasay
- Malaga vs. Dortmund
A few good story-lines there: Barca facing Ibrahimovic, Mourinho facing former stars Drogba and Sneijder, Mouronho attempting to become the first manager to win 3 CLs with 3 different teams, and a bunch of separate possibilities of domestic rivals meeting in the semis or the final (although it's possible for teams from the same country to be drawn together here, it so happened that none was).
Needless to say, we'll be back with more later, as well as a preview for tomorrow's match. Thanks for reading.
