While simultaneously dealing with a club cornerstone and his ossified ankle, Bayern Munich handed out two new contracts to their youth teams today.
While news that Austrian U21 international Alessandro Schöpf was offered a contract are several weeks old, the team officially confirmed today that Schöpf has signed his first professional contract, lasting until June of 2016. The 19-year-old CM in Erik ten Haag's 4-1-4-1 has collected 6 goals and 3 assists this season in addition to earning his first international callup in September.
The other huge news is that German/American national and German U21 player Julian Green has signed his first professional contract with Bayern Munich. The 18-year-old winger/striker has been the breakout of the season for the reserve squad, notching 15 goals and 6 assists in 17 matches. His contract will last until June of 2017.
This is fantastic news for the Bayern Munich organization as their youth teams continue to pump out quality talent. With the sheer amount of talent this organization is dumping into this first team, we're going to see one of these players or one of last years standouts in Mitchell Weiser, Patrick Weihrauch, or Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg crack the bench on a consistent basis soon; especially if this team's starting 11 keep dropping like flies.
