Remember the ankle injury that was supposed to slow down Julian Green? Apparently neither does he.
Julian Green scored two more goals for the FC Bayern München II, increasing his goal tally to 13 in the Regionalliga II, which ranks second to Vitalij Lux of FV Illertissen. The reserves went on to win their 15th match of the season against TSV Buchbach 3-0.
Green did not do his damage from up top this time, starting on the right wing of Erik ten Hag's 4-1-4-1. Mitchell Weiser and Patrick Weihrauch were not on the team sheet, so Green filled the void. Ten Hag gave Kevin Friesenbichler his first start, pushing the 19-year-old Austrian up top.
After missing a header a few minutes earlier, Green found himself one-on-one with Buchbach Dominik Sußmaier, and slotted the ball past the keeper for his fourth opening goal of the season in the 37th minute.
Friesenbichler made his mark in the 62nd minute, taking his first opportunity in the Starting XI by the scruff. He doubled the scoreline with an "ice-cold" finish, showcasing his goalscoring skills. Green's second came in the 82nd minute as Buchbach could not summon an answer to the Rekordmeister reserves.
The reserve match this Saturday against FC Augsburg II will mark the halfway point in FC Bayern II's season, and they currently sit six points ahead of FV Illertissen. Given that TSV 1860 München II scored 80 points to secure the top spot in the Regionalliga Bayern, a win this weekend means that they are 11 victories away from besting their Munich rivals' mark.
