Bayern Munich travel to Manchester City in huge Champions League clash

Bayern Munich visit England once again in the Champions League with a trip to Manchester City.

Martin Rose

Bayern Munich and Pep Guardiola will look to continue the strong start to the season when they visit the blue side of Manchester on Wednesday evening for a match with Manchester City. This will be the second time in three seasons that Bayern and Man City are in the same Champions League group.

The two sides met each other in Group A of the 2011-2012 Champions League. Bayern easily won the first match in Munich 2-0 on a brace from Mario Gomez. The game in Manchester was played after Bayern had already qualified for the knockout round of the competition, and the Mancunians flipped the 2-0 scoreline on it's head. However, Bayern won the group, while Man City were eliminated from the competition.

At the beginning of this season, both sides were picked to win their respective leagues by most pundits. As of this moment, Bayern are tied on points with Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga table. Let's take a look at the table in the English Premier League to find out where Manchester City sit. First... Second... Third... You have to head all the way down to 7th place to find them. It's surely not what Manuel Pellegrini has planned.

Bayern are coming into the match after struggling to pick up a 1-0 victory over Wolfsburg at the weekend. However, we should expect Guardiola to put out the best side available to him. My lineup prediction is as follows:

Manuel Neuer; Philipp Lahm, Dante, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba; Bastian Schweinsteiger; Franck Ribery, Thomas Müller, Toni Kroos, Arjen Robben; Mario Mandzukic

Date/Time: Wednesday, October 2

Location: Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England

TV/Streaming: USA (Fox Sports 2 / Fox Soccer 2 Go), Canada (Sportsnet), UK (Sky Sports 2 / Sky Go), Find Your Country
