The crowd was light - estimated at between 1,000 and 2,000 by Abendzeitung, who had a reporter on hand. Schalke brought a relatively serious line-up, with Hildebrand, Draxler, and Hoewedes all on hand. But they did have a few key guys missing, and FB Kaan Ayhan was powerless to stop Ribery, who tore up the Schalke flank with long runs and dribbling moves.
Aside from the first 5 or 6 minutes, when Schalke had a few good looks (especially after a van Buyten turnover), this one was all Bayern. Starke, working the goal while Neuer watched on, didn't have much to do, but he did bravely sprint from his line to clear one ball that could have been trouble. For the most part, though, all the action was on the other end. Ribery did whatever he wanted with the ball, Schweinsteiger had several key passes, and S04 had no answer for Mandzukic (who drew the first penalty in addition to later getting his name in the books).
Some video - here's Mandzukic with a nice left-footed shot, after Ribery made a great move to split 2 defenders:
Gomez with a powerful blast - a tiny bit of luck here, as it dropped right to his feet from a deflection, but after the Shaqiri move to get to the end line this was totally deserved:
And Mandzu with the between-the-legs shot:
A productive outing for Die Roten, as the club will surely come back to Germany with plenty of confidence. we have another friendly vs. Basel this coming Saturday.
