FC Bayern's pre-season success continued in the city of Gangzhou, as Die Roten beat VfL Wolfsburg through goals from Mandzukic and Robben. Bayern made a few mistakes and relied on Manuel Neuer to make some key saves, but did enough to come away with the win.
Although it was a friendly and seven time zones away, both clubs displayed a lot of energy, and both sides fielded talented line-ups. It was one of the Wolfsburg new additions, Vaclav Pilar, who came off the bench to score and ensure a respectable score-line.
For Bayern, Arjen Robben continues his good pre-season form. His long run and precise chip put Bayern up 2-0, despite the fact that we hadn't looked great up to that point:
The second half was pretty free-flowing (with some sloppy defending), as both sides had chances to score. Daniel van Buyten came close with a header, and he still clearly poses match-up problems for opponents from set pieces, due to his size and strength.
A few things for Bayern to work out, but the club is starting to round into shape. If Robben stays healthy and can work both sides of the field, this could be a great year for him.
