Bayern Munich provided a strong finish to the Bundesliga season today, crushing FC Köln by a 4-1 score-line. Bayern took until the 34th minute to score, but they were the better side from the opening kick, and Gomez nearly got to a Ribery cross on the early going. With the loss and today's win by Hertha Berlin,Köln is officially relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, and their fans are not happy about it.
First and most-importantly: no one got injured. Secondly, I think the line-up (which is probably the same one we'll use for the Champions League final in 2 weeks) performed well together. It was hard to get a good look at the back line, because our midfield and forwards were controlling the whole match, but the few times FC Köln got forward, our defense was able to avoid any major breakdowns. We were a little slow to get back on the Köln goal, but honestly I think it was Boateng who could have done more to cut off the final pass.
Offensively, we were hitting on all cylinders. Too bad Gomez didn't get on the score sheet, but it's more important to see good ball movement and an active offense scoring from multiple angles than it is to see one guy win a scoring title. Mueller is starting to hit his form at the right time, and Ribery played an excellent match.
Video - this one should have all 4 goals:
And this is a bit of the FC Köln supporters' reaction - hooliganism is ugly and shouldn't be tolerated, though I have to say their club didn't really look like they wanted it that bad.
Chelsea is playing Liverpool right now, if you want to scout. No rooting for injuries - we're above that.
