Big news this morning, as Arjen Robben has signed a contract extension that will keep him with FC Bayern through the summer of 2015. Robben was already signed through next year (summer of 2013), and rumors that he was "close" to re-signing had been percolating for weeks. But his recent bust-up with teammate Franck Ribery, and Robben's comments subsequently, led some observers to believe it wasn't a sure thing. Now, he has tacked 2 years onto his deal, and will be holding down the RW spot for the near future.
Both sides had good things to say about the deal, naturally. KHR had been promising this deal for days, and looks like he made good on his promise. Robben says that "Bayern is like a family for me" and also notes his excitement at the possibility of winning more games and earning more trophies: "We are a great team and I am sure that we will have great sporting success in the coming years."
Terms of the deal were not fully disclosed. We can assume he's making big money, but I'll update or add a comment if information is released describing exactly how big. Thanks to Grudnik for the tip.
