Well, I don't feel like writing much, but I thought we should let everyone check in and air the grievances. Just a really, really disappointing result. Three times over the course of the match, Bayern really had the advantage and would have felt like we were favored to win: after the Mueller goal, after Ribery drew a penalty in extra time, and after Neuer saved the first Chelsea shot during the shoot-out. But the Blues never went away, and we just couldn't make it happen when we really had to.
Honestly, I wish we'd just gotten blown out and lost by 4 goals. It's much worse to think we outplayed them for the entire match but just couldn't get it done. Our make-shift defense mostly played well, we controlled the middle of the field exactly as we wanted, and our passing and lateral movement were good. We just couldn't find the net in any of our first 6 or 8 good chances, and when we finally broke through, Chelsea equalized just a few minutes later from a corner.
I feel really bad for the guys. I think the effort was there, I feel like we executed the game plan properly. I really, really, really wish Gomez could shoot the damn ball on the first touch rather than try to always settle it, but I guess there's no point in digging into that now. It's just the downside of following a really exciting game - sometimes the excitement doesn't go your way.
I wish I had something more profound to say. Just a gutting result. I'm not watching any post-game, I don't need to see the Fox announcers talk up Drogba. Feel free to check in, but nothing angry or hateful. Joe, sorry about the iPad. Thanks for reading.
