A report from Spanish journal AS indicates that FC Bayern and Benfica have agreed to terms for Portuguese left back Fabio Coentrão. The report has been picked up by ESPN in Asia and some tabloid publications, but so far lacks confirmation. I am always cynical when the initial report does not come out of Munich–so we’ll wait and see if this stands up. Just days ago, Benfica had indicated that a €15 million Bayern offer was insufficient. Given Bayern’s repeated insistence that not much would happen on the transfer market, the Coentrão pursuit had begun to look like a dead end.
