FC Bayern had a rough weekend match, losing 4:1 to 3.Liga leader and Pokal quarterfinalist VfL Osnabrück. So the die-hards who turned out at the Grünwalder Stadion this evening for the mini-Bayern Derby must have felt a bit of apprehension: after all, opponent FC Ingolstadt sat in 2nd, just 3 points behind Osnabrück in the standings. But a Mehmet Ekici goal from 30 meters out broke a scoreless tie, and Bayern II moved to 9th in the 3rd division table. Ekici now has 12 goals in 26 3.Liga matches; by comparison, Thomas Müller netted 15 in 32 3.Liga matches last season.
Once again, the goal video proves elusive for now, but instead we have a look-in on David Alaba, who will provide an additional threat on set pieces going forward if this close call is any indication.
