It is crunch time kids... we have had a lot of pretenders to the throne fall, but now, it's the real final four time. And your dear friend and Psychic Octopus would be negligent if I didn't tell you what was going to happen.

In this fanpost, Markopolo will:

· Tell you why one team will win

· Tell you why the other team will win

· Tell you what Markopolo thought was going to happen

· Rate that prediction (with his Time Tested and True Psychic Octopus Tentacle Scale from 1 to 8), and

· Tell you his prediction for the 2nd leg of this Champions League Semi

Here we go!!!!!!

******************

Chelsea FC vs Atletico Madrid, at Chelsea

Why Chelsea Will Win: Because Chelsea FC is the kings of the football ground and pound. They have absolutely no problem with playing the 7-1-1. While some fans would rather drink poison than ever cheer for a team that would do that, Chelseaites have no problem cheering on their team, so long as the results come their way.

Why Atletico Will Win: They have nothing to lose. While people would predict that they’d do pretty well, very few if any honestly expected Atletico to make it this far. And they’ve done well. And the problem with the 7-1-1 is that all it takes is one chink in the armour, one weak link of the chain, to screw everything up. And in the pressure cooker of the Champions League… mistakes happen.

What did Marko think was going to happen? Atletico will huff, and puff, and they will eventually blow Jose’s house down… but they will get tired and rue the overexertion and allow Jose to get his away goal… which is all he needs to go back to Stamford Bridge and seal the deal. ATLETICO WINS 2-1

Tentacle Rating: 3 I’m torn… because even though I thought some goals would happen, this result was essentially the same: if you can’t win an away game, if you can’t get an away goal in an away game loss, at least nil-nil draw it out….

2nd Leg Prediction? Remember the CL final, between Bayern and Chelsea? Remember how Bayern scored, then Chelsea scored, and it went to overtime and penalty kicks? Remember the dedicated hyper defense that Chelsea used, only to score on a corner to tie the game? Have you heard about the "rope-a-dope" boxing strategy? Hell, did you watch the Chelsea vs Liverpool game over the weekend? Well, expect it all again… but for the win: Chelsea score in the last few minutes to win it, Chelsea 1-0

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich at Munich

Why Bayern Will Win: Bayern is at home, Bayern have their backs against the wall, and the soccer journalists of the world will whip up a fury if Bayern lose this game (after previously crowning them kings of everything during the undefeated run)

Why Real Madrid Will Win? Because Ronaldo and Bale will both be at 100%. Because Real Madrid do not lose badly unless they have a bad game or they don’t feel the need to try because of their efforts in the first leg… which won’t happen here.

What did Marko think was going to happen? It’ll be a helluvagame. But much like their little brothers Atletico, the fact that Real is home for the first leg is bad news for them… because as good as Real is at home, in Bayern (or in Germany for that matter) they are piss poor (fyi: if you bring up Real's stomping of Schalke in the 16, please close your browser now and leave) . Real cannot afford to sit back and let this be a goalless draw: they need to attack as if they are down by 3 goals. I wrote in one the preview thread (or a related thread) that in order to book their ticket to Lisbon, Real is going to have to score at least 2 goals and shut Bayern out. They’ll only accomplish one of those... because to quote the Great Wesley Snipes... "Always bet on black" BAYERN WIN 3-2.

Tentacle Rating: 1 tentacle well…. $hit the crap f%%k.

Despite the loss and despite the wailing and flailing and doomsayers and all of people who have suddenly come out of nowhere to give their opinions on what went wrong and why Pep needs to be fired (as if they too have moles on the Bayern board or bench, like I do… pfffff) the result hides just how much went right for Bayern Munich. The simple, irrefutable fact is that that it’s easy to look back, in hindsight and say "Why didn’t ____ happen?" 2 truths came out of this game: 1) Whether you want to admit it or not, the hyper possession based game was the key reason why Real Madrid were limited in chances to score… if you don’t give your enemy chances, they can’t hurt you,… we limited Real to 3 solid chances… and against a World class team like Real, that’s not too bad and 2) Yes, the introduction of Gotze/Muller was awesome… know why it worked? Because for 70+ minutes, Real was being run ragged hyper defending knowing that one mistake would result in a goal. It’s like boxing, where you wear your opponent down with jabs, then in the 10/11/12th round, after they’re spent, you bring the haymakers and bring the pain. Except, we missed the chance to KO them (shoot AWAY from the keeper, Gotze!!)

2nd leg Prediction? Were you emotionally spent over last game? Well, it was good practice for you, as the general script of this 2nd leg will be a carbon copy of the 1st leg…. Bayern will hog the ball limiting Real’s chances and try to pop one in, Real will withstand the blows and wait for the counter attack to score one of their own. Except this time, Real won’t score first… Bayern will… it’ll happen late, as for 80ish minutes, Real will be hanging on by the hairs on their chinny chin chin.. Then we go to the overtime. Then we go to penalty kicks. But the frequent heart attacks will be worth it: we have a CL final rematch in Lisbon. Bayern win 1-0, tie 1-1, and advance on penalties.
