The FC Bayern II side was at it again Friday as they obliterated Regionalliga Bayern newcomers SV Schalding-Heining by a final scoreline of 5-0 at the Sportanlage Reuthinger Weg (where apparently a beer costs €2 ($2.65), according to transfermarkt). The goal scorers included a diverse array of young Bayern talent, including a brace from Allesandro Schöpf, and single goal contributions from Hojbjerg, Weihrauch, and Green.
Vladimiar Rankovic added an additional assist to his tally bringing this season’s number up to 6 in three matches. It should be noted that Rankovic has moved away from the RB position, he has played in the previous seasons for the Bayern youth squads and last year’s reserve side, and is now playing as the rightside midfielder in Erik ten Hag’s 4-1-4-1. Apparently, I need to go back and re-take basic reading comprehension courses.
With their third win of the young season, the reserve squad has racked up an impressive +13 goal differential to date. The true test for them comes this week as the face off against a couple reserve sides.
First up, they face FC Nuremberg II tomorrow at the Grunwalder Stadion. The reserve Nurembergian’s finished fourth in the Regionalliga Bayern this last season, 8 points back of FC Bayern II’s second place finish. In their final meeting last season, the FC Bayern II squad waxed poetic to a 3-1 win during their 8 game winning dash up the standings. This season, the Nuremberg side currently sits in 15th place, courtesy of 3 draws and a loss to open their season.
On Saturday, they travel to Furth, and face the Greuther Furth reserve squad. While their season wasn’t as disappointing as their parent club’s relegation quality performance, they did finish 12th in the 20 team Regionalliga. Their season to date so far has been much improved as they currently sit tied on points with the league leading FC Bayern II squad, and sport a +12 goal differential. However, that is mainly behind the strength of a 7-0 thrashing of SV Viktoria Aschaffenburg two weeks ago.
Here's looking forward to two more wins and to opening up a sizable lead at the top of the table.
