Jupp Heynckes Lineup Selections Analyzed

With one eye on the Champions League match against Arsenal on Tuesday, Jupp Heynckes had several interesting personnel options to consider.

Wolfsburg were the only side able to capture a point at the Allianz Arena this season, so the Bayern Munich manager had to put out a strong lineup.

He made four changes to the side that demolished Schalke last weekend, bringing on Thomas Müller, Daniel van Buyten, Luiz Gustavo and former Wolves striker Mario Mandzukic in place of Arjen Robben, Jerome Boateng, Mario Gomez, and Javi Martinez.

All the selections seemed to work out. The Croatian Mandzukic scored the opener from a magnificent bicycle kick, while Arjen Robben also performed well in his roll, coming off the bench to score an excellent goal in stoppage time.

Aside from the missing Martinez, who was rested with a toe injury, the rest of the lineup is likely to be on the field to face the Gunners at the Emirates next week.

While any lineup combination should be able to perform well against the less talented Gunners, who currently reside in 5th place of the EPL, it won't be easy to keep leaving Robben and Gomez on the bench, even for the 67 year old Heynckes.
