Arjen Robben Suffers Knee Laceration in DFB Pokal Match

A hard tackle from Marwin Hitz caused an early exit from the in-form winger

FC Bayern München's Arjen Robben left Wednesday's DFB Pokal match with a laceration on his right knee, according to the club.

Augsburg keeper Marwin Hitz came into Robben with a two-footed tackle after the Bayern winger was called offside. He crashed to the ground and called over the trainers to look at his right knee after he stopped rolling. Thomas Müller later replaced Robben two minutes later as he was carried off the field and to the locker room.

Robben was having a stellar game up to that point, pestering Matthias Ostrzolek and Ragnar Klavan for the quarter of an hour he was on the pitch. He scored the only goal of the first half within the first three minutes of the match.

Hitz received a yellow card from referee Felix Zwayer.

Sport Bild reported that Robben was taken to the hospital, although that report has yet to be confirmed.

If Robben does end up missing the weekend tilt against SV Werder Bremen, Müller likely would be the one to start. Franck Ribery appeared off the bench, so the winger depth might not be affected.
