World Cup Qualifiers: Germany Beats FRO, Poland Held, Dutch Win

In a busy day around the world, 66 national sides took part in World Cup Qualifiers. Germany struggled in the first few minutes, but took control late in the first half and cruised to a 3-0 victory over Faroe Islands.

The 2nd one (Müller with the lob, Mesut with the volley finish) was the only really pretty one. Overall, Germany took a little too long to get the offense going. Nielsen, the Faroese GK, did have a few nice saves, though, and they were playing back in a rather defensive set. It looked like Germany almost had a 2-4-3-1 for a while, as the FBs were plowing forward waaay past the CBs. In a match like this, though, there's not as big a need to keep a tight defensive line.

Elsewhere, Netherlands beat Turkey 2-0 to seize control of that group:

Italy was surprisingly held by Bulgaria:
